Anything you need for your pet is there; food, toys, leashes, treats. It's not just for cats and dogs. It's motto is, "If it has a mouth, we can feed it."
Searching the aisle of any store can sometimes be a headache. What's safe for my family? What's healthy? But, do you ask those questions for your furry family members, too?
"There's a lot of pets that have low-level food allergies to some of the ingredients in some of these pet foods, so it's just about finding what is the special need of that animal."
That's why Gary Herzog opened Prairieland Feeds - America's Country Store.
"I found there was a niche that was not being filled in our Champaign-Urbana market."
That niche was pets.
"As everybody knows, pets, a lot like humans. They have different personalities."
Which means they all need different stuff, different things to eat, different types of toys.
"The most important thing is getting the help to find what is needed for your individual pet. For that situation, there's no such one product fits all."
But, just like us humans, it's hard to find the perfect fit if you can't try it out. So, at Prairieland, just bring your pet in to make sure it's right.
"At Prairieland Feeds, it's our goal here, pets are king."
In my house, Zuzu is queen, so I thought I'd let her get the Our Town experience too.
"It's such a fun business. People come in, they're usually in a good mood. The pets are all happy 'cause they have all those wonderful smells that they can experience."
An experience great for pets like Zu and owners like me and the people who work there everyday.
"I get up everyday and it's so fun to get to come to work."
Getting to talk about your pet's needs while they are with you really is helpful. We just bought a new house. Zuzu has been a little stressed out about the situation, so they recommended some treats and activities to help calm her down. So far, it really seems to be working. Zuzu finally seems more at home.
