DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) -- Bon-Ton is closing 42 of its stores, including the local Carson's.
Vermilion Advantage, an economic development agency, says the city will lose out on retail sales taxes when it closes. Altogether, sales taxes make up more than 60% of the city's revenue.
However, they also say the Carson's closing might boost Kohl's and T.J. Maxx sales in town.
Many frequent shoppers said they're sad to see the store go.
MaryJane Benford lives right across from the mall.
She says, " I like the store because I can buy clothes to fit me. When you're older we don't have anywhere to buy clothes and we buy our makeup here. They're just like family. I hate to see it close."
Carson's closing sales starts February 1. Employees at the local store don't know when the official closing date will be, but is expected sometime in March.
