CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- An area non-profit has spent 20 years helping the most vulnerable people in our community. CASA stands up for abused and neglected kids navigating the court system.

There was a lunch Wednesday to mark the 20th anniversary. It was a chance for the group to say thank you to all the volunteers who make its work possible. Over the past two decades, it's helped thousands of kids.

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. Those advocates are the voice of children who have no one else to speak for them. CASA says it's seen the need for volunteer advocates increase significantly over the past twenty years.

CASA recruits and trains volunteer advocates about four times a year. It has nearly 130 of them handling about 200 cases in court. CASA says it wants to grow the organization to meet the need of kids in Champaign County.

Many people at the luncheon were there when it first started twenty years ago. They hope the organization will still be going strong twenty years from now.
