DANVILLE -- The state has a new Chief Justice and, Sunday, people in her hometown celebrated her promotion. Rita Garman was surrounded by family, friends and well-wishers at a reception at St. James United Methodist Church.

Garman has been a judge since 1974; the longest-serving woman in Illinois. This weekend, people just wanted to say, "congratulations." Garman will serve a three-year term as Chief Justice.
