Authorities will hand out gift cards as an incentive to get weapons off the streets. You bring in a gun, take home a $50 Visa gift card, no questions asked.
Church leaders have been working with businesses, other churches and police departments to raise money for the exchange. They say they've seen too much violence in Champaign-Urbana recently.
In May, three people were killed in just eight days. All three were accidentally shot to death. Just last week, a 20-year old woman was also shot and killed while coming home from a 4th of July fireworks celebration.
Champaign and Urbana police, as well as the Champaign County Sheriff's department will be there to help with the event.
