URBANA -- A busy street is falling apart and the city doesn’t have the money to fix it. It’s a rough estimate, but city leaders says changes to Windsor Road between Philo and Race will come with a $6 million price tag.

There are several holes and bumps in the road. Officials say it’s because of a chemical reaction taking place inside the cement, but help could be on the way.

The city was offered a $250,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation. It wants to use the money for an evaluation to determine the total cost to fix the street, but it will also provide an opportunity to apply for other state grants.

City officials say the streets are still safe for drivers. The city council will officially vote to accept or deny the grant at its Monday night meeting.
