CHAMPAIGN -- Mattis Avenue needs major repairs after cold weather caused potholes to get worse. IDOT owns part of the road plus others like Springfield Avenue.

Last week, Mayor Gerard said the city is working on a deal to take control. Wednesday night, it was discovered the city and state have been negotiating for three years.

City officials say the state hasn't offered enough money to take the road back and make repairs. Public works couldn't say how much is needed for those repairs, but did say talks could continue this year.
