HOOPESTON -- Workers have removed about 150 truckloads of debris since a tire recycling plant caught fire at J & R Recycling in June. The lot is already looking emptier.

Contractors are separating the rubber from metal to ship it off. The mayor says the community has been supportive through the whole process.

There are still hot spots popping up around the site every once in a while. IDOT thermal cameras show about ten remain. There is also residue on the ground from burned tires now that many have been hauled away.
