Contractor admits fraud in state contracts

URBANA -- A state contractor pleaded guilty to fraud following a scheme to get millions in taxpayer-funded contracts. Thomas Williams admitted to using a minority-owned business as a front to get two state contracts in 2010.

One was to restore UI's Lincoln Hall. The other was to build a new science complex at SUI Edwardsville.

An investigation revealed Williams did not employ a minority-owned business to work on or provide materials for either project. The 81-year old from Peoria was ordered to repay the state $1.5-million.
