Council approves honorary street for late pastor

DECATUR -- A city street will honor a beloved minister. Monday night, the city council voted unanimously to name U.S. 36 and South 27th Street after Reverend B.G. Nevitt.

Nevitt was killed in a motorcycle accident in August. The sign will be installed near his old church. Pastor Nevitt also served as lead police chaplain starting in 2008 and as an auxiliary officer starting in 2009.

DECATUR -- A street could soon be designated in honor of a beloved minister. The city council is considering naming U.S. 36 and South 27th Street after Reverend B.G. Nevitt.

He was killed in a motorcycle accident in August. If approved, the sign would be installed near the church he pastored. The city council has had an honorary street sign program in place since 2009.
