Dale and Penny Watkins are trying to get visitation rights scheduled with their granddaughter, Sidney. Sidney's father, Steven, was shot and killed in 2008. Now the Watkins are battling his wife in court.
Jennifer didn't show up for her hearing, telling the judge she wasn't able to make it and needed an attorney. The Watkins haven't seen Sidney since 2010, when she moved to Florida with her mom. The grandparents have been fighting for visitation rights ever since.
The judge decided to issue their first visitation for March 30th. He also ordered two week long visits during the summer and after Christmas.
The family's attorney told WCIA-3 News over the phone, his clients just hope Jennifer follows through on the orders so they can see Sidney.
Jennifer's grandmother, Shirley Skinner, was convicted of murdering Stephen. She is now serving a 55-year sentence.
