Crews investigate two fires

CHAMPAIGN -- Authorities say smoking materials may be to blame for a house fire. It happened early Tuesday morning on Charwick Drive.

Crews say it started in the back of the home and spread toward the attic. No one was hurt. They say a quick response helped keep it from spreading to other areas.

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- Crews are investigating two area fires. The latest happened early Tuesday morning in the 2100-block of Charwick Drive, in Champaign. The other happened about 7 pm, Monday, in the 400-block of Springfield Avenue, in Urbana.

Authorities say an 89-year old woman died in the Urbana fire. Crews responded about 7 pm. They found the woman inside the home and carried her out. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Officials are still trying to determine the cause of the fire. The victim's name has not been released yet.

As for the fire in Champaign, crews responded about 1 am, Tuesday. No one was hurt. Crews say a quick response helped keep it from spreading to other areas. No word yet on a cause for that fire either.
