URBANA -- Child Abuse Awareness Month may be coming to an end, but advocates hope the message stays on people's minds. In Champaign County, nearly 14 of every 1000 kids is abused. The number is higher than the state average.

Wednesday, people stood together at the Crisis Nursery. They held signs encouraging people to ask for help or report harm towards children.

"I think a lot more people are talking about it and the stigma surrounding child abuse is still there, but people are more comfortable and people are more comfortable reaching out and asking how can they help, how can they get involved," says Stephanie Record, director of Crisis Nursery.
