Dam removal back on track

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) -- The Illinois Department of Natural Resources finally has the money to remove two dangerous dams in the area; one in Ellsworth Park, the other behind the public safety building.

Neither is in use and seven people have died because of them. City officials decided to remove then in 2013, but the budget impasse put things on hold.

Now that funding is available, Mayor Scott Eisenhauer says the removal is back in motion. He says he hopes to have the trees around the Ellsworth Dam removed by March, so the dam itself can come out this summer.
