Did Abe Lincoln Invent Facebook?

SPRINGFIELD -- A blog claims Abraham Lincoln is the real inventor of Facebook.

Nate St. Pierre wrote an article claiming to have found a document showing Lincoln patented a social media newspaper in 1854. The blogger came clean today, explaining he made the whole thing up to pay tribute to Lincoln.

The hoax caught the attention of people around the world. Dave Blanchette, spokesman for The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield, says people make claims like this almost every day.

Lincoln was an inventor. In 1849, he patented a device to lift riverboats over sand bars. He is the only U.S. President to hold a patent.
