Districts consider consolidation

VERMILION COUNTY -- The first of two talks takes place Wednesday night to discuss whether Catlin and Jamaica schools should consolidate. The Salt Fork committee is encouraging people to attend both. They're looking for feedback on the idea.

Voters in the Catlin Unit 5 District and Jamaica Unit 12 District will vote on the idea in November. If passed, the schools could merge by next summer.

VERMILION COUNTY -- Two school districts are a step closer to consolidating. Catlin and Jamaica schools want to merge. Junior high students would go to Jamaica and high school students to Catlin.

The Illinois State Superintendent approved a measure this week. It will allow the issue to be on the November ballot so voters can have the ultimate say.

VERMILION COUNTY -- Two schools in the county are closer to consolidating. Catlin and Jamaica school districts want to form a co-op. Both will keep K - 5th grades. Junior high would be in Jamaica and the high school in Catlin.

Tuesday night, the regional superintendent will hear public comments. The hearing starts at 6 pm at the Danville Area Community College Bremer Theater.
