EFFINGHAM COUNTY -- It's a place which is supposed to be centered around health, but this doctor's office became a place for crime. Dr. Naeem Kohli was arrested for illegally giving out prescriptions. Now, he's facing federal drug and fraud charges.

Investigators say he was running a "pill mill." The Department of Justice says he was using his medical practice to illegally give prescriptions to drug addicts. Investigators say he was also billing people for services he didn't provide.

The 59-year old operated the Kohli Neurology and Sleep Center, in Effingham. People say it closed down a few weeks ago, but no one was sure why. There's currently an "Office for Rent" sign in the window. Calls to the office went to an answering machine.

The doctor is charged with healthcare fraud, illegal distribution of a Schedule Two controlled substance and money laundering. He faces up to 40-years in prison.
