CHAMPAIGN -- One woman started a rescue effort after five ducklings fell into a storm drain. Traffic was rerouted near Neil and Marketview while Leana Cossman and her daughter, Sarah, tried to rescue the wayward fowl.

Bystanders, police and others eventually grew to a crowd of more than ten, anxious to save the birds. Cossman says the response was surprising.

It took more than one hour to rescue the ducklings. Crews used a hose to direct one of them toward another manhole. All five have been reunited with their mother.
