CHAMPAIGN -- Thousands of cars lined up Saturday to keep the environment cleaner and safer. More than 1,000 cars went through the electronic recycling drop-off. It was at the News-Gazette's distribution center.

People handed off TV's, computers, radios and microwaves. Organizers say doing this helps keep lead and mercury out of landfills.

Most of the electronics will be restored, cleared of data and resold. The event comes at a great time during Earth Day Weekend.
