EPA holds coal mine meeting

JAMAICA, Ill. - A coal mine could be coming to Vermilion County, but not everyone's in favor of it. The EPA held a public meeting about the future of Sunrise Coal. Sunrise promised about 300 full-time jobs, which got a lot of support from community members.

Others were concerned about miners' health and safety impacts since wastewater will be discharged into an unknown body of water if they get a permit to move forward. Anyone who missed the meeting has until September 11 to write the EPA.
