Falling asleep may be cause of fatal accident

VERMILION COUNTY -- One person was killed in an accident late Tuesday evening. It happened just before midnight on I-74 near the Bowman Avenue exit.

40-year old Christopher Petrie, of Crawfordsville, IN, was killed when the van he was driving entered the median and rolled over. Police say he might have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Four other men, ranging in age from 17 - 35 were also in the van. Petrie and two passengers were thrown from the vehicle. One passenger was able to get out on his own. A fourth passenger had to be extricated.

All were taken to the hospital. Three remain hospitalized with one in good condition. No word on the conditions of the other two. All were issued citations for failing to wear seat-belts.
