URBANA -- There was a sea of red, white and blue around the streets of Champaign-Urbana Friday morning. The Freedom Celebration Parade stepped off just after 11 am. Crowds of people came out to see their favorite floats and cheer on the marching bands. A teen, who was also celebrating his birthday, says it makes the day even more special.

"It's just seems like a huge celebration for me. That's what makes it fun," said Nick Smith, who turned 16-years old Friday.

"I just like seeing the floats and I like picking up the candy off the street," said Coehn Rodgers, who is 8-years old.

Members of the United Way of Champaign County were grand marshals. The theme was "Celebrating Community Volunteers." People say they enjoyed watching the show with their families and they're excited to see fireworks Friday night.
