DANVILLE -- Preliminary autopsy results show a man killed during a shootout with police may have come from a weapon fired by one of two other suspects in the car rather than police. Scott Islam died at the hospital February 26, from a gunshot wound to the head.
Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason stated Monday the results are from "a very preliminary report. (And) Additional results are awaited before the final report is made."
Police exchanged gunfire with Charles Twigg and Gaylen Thomas who were taken into custody after the incident in the early morning hours of February 26. Officers had attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle since it matched the description of a vehicle involved in a "shots fired" call just minutes earlier.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and crashed into a home near Logan and Kimber before the exchange of gunfire took place. State police are still investigating.
DANVILLE -- Two Vermilion County men pleaded not guilty. They're accused of shooting at police officers. Investigators say Charles Twigg and Gaylen Thomas got in a shootout with officers after a chase.
That chase ended early Wednesday morning when their car crashed into a home on North Logan. A third suspect, Scott Islam, died when he was shot in the head.
