SPRINGFIELD -- Paul Carlson, of Petersburg, will spend seven years behind bars for the death of his 7-year old daughter, Kealy. Carlson heard his fate in Sangamon County Court Friday.
Family members sat in tears as the judge handed down his sentence. Carlson was convicted of aggravated DUI.
Kealy died after Carlson crashed their car on a country road near Pleasant Plains on October 10, 2011. Police say Paul was driving drunk with a B.A.C. three times the legal limit.
Kealy's family say he got what he deserved: one year, for each year of her life. The say they're ready to close a very sad chapter in their lives. The judge also ordered Paul to undergo treatment for alcoholism.
