SPRINGFIELD -- The state could ramp up roadway safety efforts thanks to nearly $3 million in federal grant funding.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded six grants to the Illinois Department of Traffic Safety totaling more than $2.7 million.

Those dollars will be used to support motorcycle safety training, curb drunk driving and educate drivers to the importance of wearing a seat belt.
