HOOPESTON -- Fire continues to burn at a tire factory more than 12-hours after it started. Crews responded to J & R Recycling early this morning. It's on Route 9 near Market Street. WCIA-3's Drew Wilder has more.

The smoke from fire at J & R Recycling blackened the skies for miles. The company recycles and re-purposes tires. About 40-people work there.

When crews arrived about 5:30 am, five employees there at the time escaped safely. Neighbor Samantha Kinard says her home is covered in soot and debris. J & R hopes to reopen eventually, but are just glad no one was hurt.

Beneath the smoke, a community is coming together to support its firefighters and emergency responders while they battle the blaze. Chief Crabtree says the fire could burn for days. Crews will be on scene at least until midday Thursday.
