CHAMPAIGN -- Mothers lined up to donate breast milk for sick children. The Champaign-Urbana Public Health Department opened the first breast milk bank in Central Illinois Friday. The Breast Milk Depot will take donated milk from nursing mothers.

Mother, Kristin McWilliams, donated 400 ounces of milk. She said the chance to help babies across the region makes the entire effort worthwhile.

"It's often referred to as liquid gold," McWilliams said. "So, being able to donate to babies who need it and not just dump it down the drain."

The milk will be transferred to a milk bank in Indiana where it will be sterilized and distributed across seven states.
