CHAMPAIGN -- Two Parkland College students are considered two of the best in Illinois when it comes to floral design. The classmates won first and third places in a recent State Florists Association contest. What's even more interesting is that one of the students is over 80-years old. WCIA-3 photojournalist Aubrey Morse heads to class with a look Through the Local Lens.

"Who doesn't love flowers?"

"I started with Trisha's workshops. Went to one right before Christmas and I never thought I'd be able to make anything."

"I was just like everyone else. I love flowers."

"Once I started I was hooked."

"My students this semester, I don't know how old Dot is, but I have retired students, let's say, and I also have some younger students and some in-between."

"John and Phyllis talked me into going to school and taking an advance class of design and I've had a ball. I just put things in where I think they should go."

"Working with flowers so well, it's just so much better than drawing or sitting in a desk all day."

"Once you get hooked, you, just get hooked on it. Flowers make you happy, they do. They make you happy and you feel good."

"Try it. You'll love it."

If you are interested in floral design, Parkland College is offering a class Saturday, April 12. It's called "Celebrate Mother Nature."
