Foo Fighters call local singer to stage

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) -- It's every wannabe rocker's dream to sing onstage with an internationally-known, award-winning band. Michael Carpenter did just that Wednesday night.

The Foo Fighters were playing State Farm Center. During band introductions, the drummer started playing Tom Sawyer, by Rush.

They asked if anyone in the crowd could sing it and Carpenter raised his hand. Lead singer Dave Grohl motioned him on stage.

Carpenter says his first thought was "don't trip," but when he sang the first line, the entire stadium erupted in cheers.

He says, at one point, he forgot the words, but Grohl told him, "Don't worry, keep going." Carpenter says, before last night, he was just a regular fan of the band, but now that's subject to change.
