Area Farm Bureaus are gearing up for Food Check-Out Week. Farmers say it's a time to reflect on the goodness of our land and appreciate access to safe, affordable and abundant food supplies in the U.S.
Consumers spend just about 10% of their disposable annual income on food. Retail food prices showed a slight increase in 2011 estimated at 3.7% Consumer Price Index for all food. However, the American Farm Bureau found food prices fell a modest 7% in the 4th quarter of 2011 when compared to the previous quarter.
Despite the easy access and overall affordability of groceries, many are still struggling to provide the basics for their families during these continued distressed economic times. That's why the Vermilion County Farm Bureau is asking people to help support local food pantries this week.     You can drop off donations for the St. James Community Food Pantry and the Danville Area Food Pantry at both County Markets in Danville and the Vermilion County Farm Bureau offices.
