Harold graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelors degree in Political Science, then got her law degree from Harvard. In between there, she won a very prestigious crown.
"Being Miss America was a surreal opportunity to experience," said Harold.
She is currently working as a lawyer in Chicago but she's got politics on her mind.
"Having the opportunity to perhaps represent the 13th district, the area in which I was born and raised, would be an incredible honor," said Harold.
Harold says she has always had an interest in politics and once Johnson decided not to run, people reached out to her.
"This is sort of a dream opportunity to be able to serve in public office and to be able to do it for people who I know, who I'm connected too and I'd be really passionate about that," said Harold.
Harold says she is just in the exploration stage right now but we can expect a decision in the next few days.
As of right now, Jerry Clarke is the only person running as a republican for the 13th district. He is Tim Johnson's former Chief of Staff. The republican chairmen have to pick their nominee by August. Whoever they choose will run against David Gill.
