MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) -- Come this spring, the Macon County Sheriff's Office will have some new rides.
The Howard Buffett Foundation is buying more than 20 new squad cars. They'll be fully equipped with a patrol rifle, a computer and car cameras.
The deputies will get to take them home every day as opposed to having to come to Decatur when their shift starts. The department estimates they'll put about 600 miles on the cars every day.
The foundation will pay two million dollars for the cars. The county will chip in a million to cover the 15 year program. This also means the department won't be asking the county for money to buy new squad cars every year.
