Fourth of July violence

DECATUR -- Police are investigating two violent incidents which occurred July 4th. The first involved a stabbing, the second a shooting.

A person was stabbed in the chest during a neighborhood fight. It happened at 7:23 pm in the 1400-block of East Wood Street. Six people between the ages of 18 - 30 were arrested in connection with the incident. Police say more arrests are pending. The victim's condition is not known.

Police are also investigating a shooting which happened just before 11 pm at the intersection of East John Avenue and Maffitt Street. A victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the injuries may have been caused by either a gunshot or glass shattering when a bullet passed through. They say it isn't yet clear if the victim was the intended target. Police are investigating one suspect.
