Decatur, Ill. (WCIA) -- He was one of the most famous architects in the world. Now you can live in a house he designed right here in Central Illinois.
The Edward P. Irving house at 2 Millikin Place in Decatur is up for sale. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
But living there won't come cheap. The asking price is $725,000. The owner says it's a unique piece of Decatur history.
The house was built in 1910 for Edward P. Irving. Wright did the preliminary sketches, but the designs were finished by his prodigy Marion Mahony. The blueprints come with the property.
The two story house is on the National Register of Historic Places. It's about 5,500 square feet with six bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. It still includes the original glass windows.
The owner says he put it on the market because he's looking to downsize. But he's put a lot of work in to the house. He opened it up for tours and put $96,000 in to a new roof. He says he hopes the next owner is also enthusiastic about continuing the house's legacy.
"To have one here in Decatur is very special for the community and my intention was to make it better the time I was here and add to it and keep it's legacy going forward," Marc Willis, the owner, said. "So it was being able to live in history."
Willis lives in the house with his two dogs, Franklin and Lloyd. If you're interested in buying the house or just want to see it, there will be an open house Sunday from 1 to 4 PM. You can view the listing here.
