URBANA -- Dozens of people got a new ride Thursday for free. The police department started with 100 bikes to give away. Officers collected abandoned and unclaimed two-wheelers for months.

They planned to start handing them out at 10 am, but people started lining up long before that. Officials say about half the bikes went to UI students. They ran out by 10:30. Urbana PD has been doing the program for three years and they plan to continue to do it in the future.
