UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- A new grant will help UI better diagnose breast cancer. The bioengineering department and the Mayo Clinic have been working on it for years.

They recently got a $2.2 million grant. The money will go toward developing ultrasound technology. UI researchers say it's less invasive.

Currently, many doctors use needle biopsies to see if a lump is cancerous. Not only is the ultrasound technology less costly, it's also less painful for the patient.
