MONTICELLO -- Knitters have gathered from all over the country for four days of "cranking." The crankers knit on machines from the 1800's which turn by hand. Thread goes in the top then gets put through a circular row of needles and comes out the bottom.

They have set up shop at the Best Western and will be there until Sunday. Barbara Woodard says she's glad the machines can still be put to use. The group stays in touch through social media. Many people give the socks and mittens they knit to charity.
