CHAMPAIGN -- A piece of history is floating back to the UI. A concrete canoe that is. It was first created at the UI more than 40 years ago.

A professor challenged his concrete class to make a canoe in 1971. Today people from all over the world race them and now, for the first time, the competition is coming to the UI.

"Teams put thousands of hours into this project. To see it presented on such a grand scale in such a nice venue as Illinois, it makes all of this hard work culminate into one nice three-day competition," student Armen Amirkhanian said.

The competition is June 20 - 22 at the UI. 18-teams are competing. Admission is free.
