CHAMPAIGN -- The homeless will get a little more help from the government this year. Monday, state leaders announced the donation of more than $1-million worth of federal surplus property to charities helping the homeless. It includes military boots, coats, hats and sleeping bags.

The goal is to keep people living on the streets warm this winter. Members of CU at Home say all this stuff will really make a difference. CU at Home will count the homeless in Champaign-Urbana later this month. Workers say they plan to look into the government's offer of help after the count.
