CHAMPAIGN -- High school "gear heads" are getting some hands-on experience. Parkland College hosted the state finals for the Ford Triple A Auto Skills Competition.

It brings in high school teams from around the state. Ten teams are the best of the best. They each get a broken down car to fix up. Their performances are timed and judged.

Students train all year for the competition. The winners are awarded tech school scholarships. They also get a chance to compete in the national competition in Michigan.
