CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) -- Police made an arrest in Friday's fatal shooting.

21-year old Marquise Burnett was arrested Wednesday for the murder of Darien Carter. Burnett is facing a first degree murder charge for the shooting on East Eureka Street.

Five days after the shooting, police are making progress, but they say the investigation is far from over. Just after 6 pm, Friday, police found Darien Carter with multiple gunshot wounds. He died shortly thereafter.

Monday, police issued a warrant for first degree murder for Burnett. Wednesday afternoon he was taken into custody. Police found him in a vehicle in the 2100-block of North Lincoln Avenue, in Urbana.

Champaign Police Lieutenant Dave Shaffer says, "We have a lot of investigative work still to do. There's still forensic testing and forensic lab work that needs to be done. We still have people we are talking to and evidence that needs to be processed."

Officers from Champaign County Street Crimes found Burnett in his car. They pulled him over and made the arrest. Police would not say what information led to the arrest since it's an active and ongoing investigation.

Two other men were arrested at the same time. 21-year old Tywone Mitchell and 20-year old Jamonhe Watkins were taken into custody on unrelated weapons charges.

Their arrests were not connected to the murder investigation.
