SPRINGFIELD -- The high-traffic holiday has put some state road projects on hold. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will resume roadwork at midnight Tuesday after nearly a week of postponing work.

IDOT suspended work to make for safer, more convenient traveled for the Labor Day weekend. Some state roadways have been closed since Wednesday, including Route 10, near I-55 by Lincoln.

Labor Day weekend is traditionally the last weekend of summer travel for motorists. When driving in construction zones, IDOT urges drivers to slow down, obey posted speed limits and drive with caution.
