Jail on lockdown after officer assaulted

DANVILLE -- A prison is on lock down after an inmate assaulted an officer. The officer was not serious injured, but until officials at the Danville Correctional Center know what happened, they're keeping the place on lock down.

A spokesperson for the prison says the officer was with two other officers at the time, Authorities are interviewing witnesses and other staff members to determine what happened. The victim is at home.

There are five levels at the prison. The incident took place on level four. That means prisoners who are behaving are still allowed to have visitors.

The inmate suspected in the assault is serving time for a conviction on aggravated domestic battery. He hasn't had any previous incidents during his incarceration. The inmate has been moved to another facility and put in segregation.
