Judge rules doctor fit for fraud trial

SPRINGFIELD -- A judge rules a former Taylorville doctor is fit to stand trial. Dr. Vernon Klinefelter faces charges for wire fraud.

Prosecutors say he defrauded the U.S. Government of more than $100,000 in social security benefits when he claimed disability in 2002. Earlier this year, Klinefelter's lawyer suggested he couldn't stand trail because seizures kept him from understanding the charges.

Klinefelter's wife, who was also his coworker, faces similar charges. Both are scheduled to appear in district court in Springfield in July.
