CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- Even though the snow isn't falling anymore, it's still dangerous to be on the roads. So state leaders are asking people to stay home. Some snow drifts are up to eight feet high.

With the wind we've been seeing lately, it's only a matter of time before the snow that's next to the road ends up right back in it. So when it comes to reasons to stay inside, that's just the tip of the iceberg.

"Looks like we've gone as far as we can get," said Champaign County Highway Maintenance Supervisor Tracy Wingler.

Hundreds of people in central Illinois have felt the same thing this week. When traffic took a turn for the worst on I-74 on Sunday, drivers got re-routed to Highway 150. Even though some have been saved, others are still stuck. That's made traveling tricky for people still trying to get through.

"It's been rough," said Wingler, "With the heavy snow we've had, blowing wind and the cold temperatures."

Things are looking better within the city limits. But as you drive farther away, it feels like someone shook a snow globe.

"When we came through town, you don't hardly see any snow blowing or anything like that," said Wingler. "But you get out here and you can see the snow moving quite a bit."

If the blowing snow wasn't enough, we've also got big piles of snow. Some cars are now parked on the side of the roads or even in the middle of them. And you don't want yours added to the collection.

"Sometimes we have to wait 2-3 hours just for a tow truck to come to remove one car," said Wingler. "We could have had possibly 2-3 miles of road open in that time period. We're just waiting on tow truck."

We asked Champaign County leaders which roads are the worst. They say all of them. And if your car gets stuck, you won't want to be out there in the cold trying to get it out.
