Learning to swim is life-saving

ILLINOIS -- Parents are being urged to enroll their kids in swim lessons if they can't get around in the water. DCFS says nearly 100 people die each year from drowning. Most, if not all, are preventable.

Research shows swimming lessons can reduce the risk of dying by more than 85%. Experts say, knowing the basics id key. Now, even if you child knows those basic tips and can swim well, safety experts still advise you to stay within arms reach while they're in the water. The Red Cross also urges parents to learn CPR.
