SPRINGFIELD -- A lot of soldiers kept diaries during the Civil War. Now, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum has an original.

The diary is from an area soldier. The author's family found it buried in a trunk and donated it to the library.

It describes what day-to-day life was like in the mid-1860's. Experts say it will help them learn even more about one of the biggest events in U.S. history.

A family member transcribed the whole thing before donating it. He says the writing is so tiny, he had to use a jeweler's magnifying glass to see the words.
