CHAMPAIGN -- The public library has faced its fair share of budget issues this year, but that's not stopping people from going. Employees have proof.

They were given the Star Library Award. It was chosen from among thousands by Library Journal based on the number of checkouts and computer usage.

People were worried after the library cut hours, left positions vacant and raised overdue fees, but the director says the award proves they're beating that hurdle.

"We've tried to be very wise about it. That's one of the things this award recognize is efficency of libraries. We're getting more effecient everyday. I can't say enough about the staff, they're tremendous. They're working harder all the time because they have to," director Marsha Grove said.

This is the sixth year the library has received this award.
