Local fire dog gets national exposure

JACKSONVILLE -- An area dog is destined to become a national celebrity. Smokey is the station dog for the Jacksonville Fire Department. She won a contest through NBS to appear in an episode of the show Chicago Fire.

The crew adopted Smokey after saving her from a burning home. They nursed her back to health. It's unclear when Smokey will appear on the show and what she might do.

JACKSONVILLE -- A local fire station dog could soon be a TV star. Smokey is the station dog for the Jacksonville Fire Department. 

She's one of three dogs nationwide in a contest to appear on an episode of the TV show Chicago Fire. Jacksonville firefighters rescued Smokey from a burning home.

She needed a lot of medical care and the family couldn't afford it, so firefighters adopted Smokey. To vote for Smokey, click here. The winner will be announced October 1.
