CHAMPAIGN -- Residents were scared after dozens of police cars surrounded their apartment complex. Authorities were responding to a domestic dispute in the 2500-block of West Springfield. Two people were taken into custody.

Officials say the incident started about 8:30 am when Jerry O'Neal came to visit someone who lived in the apartments and started punching a woman. About noon, she got away and called police who surrounded the building and tried to contact O'Neal.

Eventually O'Neal was arrested, but police were mostly concerned with a three-month old baby still inside the apartment. The baby belongs to the victim who lives there. The child was not hurt.

A 16-year old relative of O'Neal's was also arrested. An officer had to chase that suspect and was hurt in the process, but authorities say he was taken to the hospital and is going to be OK.
